Focuses on Strengthening Panchayat Governance in Kalimpong: MP Raju Bista Kalimpong, June 11: Darjeeling MP and BJP National Spokesperson Raju Bista on Thursday chaired the BJP Kalimpong Vidhan Sabha organisational meeting, attended by Panchayat Samiti members, Panchayat representatives, district BJP leaders, office bearers, and Kalimpong MLA Bharat Chettri. During the meeting, discussions were held on strengthening Panchayat-level governance in the Kalimpong region to improve public services and ensure the effective implementation of welfare schemes. Emphasising the importance of grassroots governance, Bista stated that strong Panchayats form the foundation of good governance and development. He urged Panchayat members to work in close coordination with elected representatives, party leadership, and the administration to address key developmental priorities, including drinking water, healthcare, education, housing, rural roads, and sanitation across villages. Bista stressed the need to ensure that government welfare schemes reach every village and every deserving beneficiary, with special attention to farmers, women, youth, and tribal communities. He also highlighted the importance of regular Gram Sabha meetings and maintaining transparency in developmental work. Referring to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Bista said that both the Central and State governments are committed to the development of backward and underdeveloped regions. He expressed confidence that focused efforts over the next five years would accelerate development in Kalimpong, the Darjeeling Hills, Terai, and Dooars regions.
